ROUGH CUT: School Tapes- Chloe Ruthven

For the last 20 years I have been lugging a box of old video tapes around from flat to flat.

The tapes are the testimonies of children I taught over the years, all deemed unteachable. The School Tapes is a homemade archive-essay film, spanning a twenty year period in a North London community. Starting in 2001, a week after the Twin Towers came down, the film follows four sets of children, including my own, as they grapple with the aftermath of 2001 and growing Islamophobia, the Prevent Strategy, violence and poverty in their communities, and the impact of parental mental health on their ability to manage. I cut this during lockdown and would love some feedback.
