Piotr is a documentary filmmaker alongside his role as Professor of Creative Practice and Visual Cultures at the University of Sussex, UK. In this talk, he will discuss his work in Argentina and Rwanda – and the different ways in which the photographic image (still and moving) inscribes itself in the legacies of mass, state-sponsored violence. Piotr will talk about how, through his work, he attempts to challenge some of the evidential and ontological claims bestowed on the photographic image. He will also discuss the reception of (Dis)Appear in Argentina, especially in the context of the country’s current wave of negationism.
